And the Marvel news continues! Twitch is reporting that one of the lesser known comic properties that may have a future on the big screen is Marvel?s THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. The news is that THE GUARDIANS is in active development, which probably means that writers have been hired to draft up a script.
THE GUARDIANS OF TH E GALAXY are a group of superheroes from a thousand year in Earth?s future. Each member the last one of their kind unite and travel back to the present to prevent the destruction of their respective races by a group of aliens called the Badoon. It definitely looks like Marvel is set on bringing the less conventional superheroes out of the attic.
There are actually a few very interesting things that can come about from a film based on The Guardians. For one it was common in the comic book that during their travels back in time they would often time team up with the already established superhero teams, mainly The Avengers.?Theoretically?Marvel could continue it?s cross pollination of their?various characters throughout their movie franchises,?The Guardians movie would easily allow for that. But aside from?the continued self-promotion a Guardians?film opens up the option to a complex story involving time travel and the complications that arises. In the comics The Guardians storyline has already suffered from issues with playing around with the space time continuum causing everything from the complete elimination of the team to drastic changes in the characters. At one point one of the main heroes becomes a woman after the timeline is changed.
Marvel is definitely thinking outside of the box with this one and I like it. All this fits well with what we?ve heard in the past about Marvel attempting to bring the more obscure line of heroes to the screen, I sincerely hope they?re are as sucussful with The Guardians as the Avengers will be. Who knows, with any luck we?re one step closer to that Iron Fist Movie I?ve been itching for.
