Diabetes has an association with various other health related issues. This includes high blood pressure as well.? This leads to strokes as well as heart disease. In fact the death rates of diabetic people with heart diseases is higher than the adults who are not diabetic. There are more than 70 percent of people who have high blood pressure along with diabetes. Diet for diabetics with high blood pressure is of great importance in reducing the risks that are associated with it. Given below are the foods that should be eaten by diabetics with blood pressure.

? Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are present in sugary and starchy foods such as corn, potatoes, peas, pasta, bread, rice, snack foods and fruits. Carbs are converted into glucose or sugar. Therefore, minimizing the intake of carbohydrates helps a lot.

There are various diet plans that suggest this. One must eat same amount of carbs at every meal. Thus, the body will not have to face the trouble of conversion of carbs to sugar. The amount of carbs that need to be consumed will be determined by the dietician. This will depend on the physical activity, sex, weight and age.

? Fats and proteins

Proteins are needed for building new cells and maintaining muscle mass. Unfortunately, there are saturated fats in proteins. They will accumulate on the walls of blood vessels. This leads to increased blood pressure. The diet for diabetics with high blood pressure should have protein and fats in controlled amounts. Fish and poultry are good choices. Skim milk and low fat cheese can also be chosen. White meat should be chosen over the skin on poultry.

Lentils and beans are also good choices.

? Dinner plate

While the meals are being prepared, the plate should be divided in half. On one half, the plate should be filled with non starchy foods such as green beans, summer squash, tomatoes and leafy vegetables. On the second half, the plate should be divided again. On one half, proteins should be put. On the other half, carbohydrates should be placed. This is done in a majority of diet plans. Carbohydrates should consist of small potatoes, skim milk, peas or a slice of bread. Artificial sweeteners should be used in tea and coffee. One can surely drink sugar free drinks. For dessert, sugar free pudding or gelatin should be consumed.

Thus, this is considered to be the best diet for diabetics with high blood pressure.
